Patrick Stewart, renowned for his iconic role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation, has been vocal about his desire for Paramount Pictures to produce a Star Trek: Picard movie. He’s actively pushing the studio to bring Picard and the Enterprise crew to the big screen in a new and unique way.
In a conversation with Time Magazine, Stewart revealed his vision for the movie, emphasizing that he’s not just looking to make another Next Generation film, as they’ve already had four of those. Instead, he envisions a cinematic experience that expands and delves deeper into the universe as seen in Star Trek: Picard. Moreover, he’s discussed this idea with fellow cast members like Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, and LeVar Burton, who share his enthusiasm for the project.
While Paramount+ had previously indicated that the upcoming season of Star Trek: Picard would mark the final adventure of the beloved Enterprise-D crew, the actors themselves are eager to continue their journey. Stewart has previously stated his ambition to create a Picard-based movie, one that’s not exclusively centered on the character Picard but instead focuses on the entire ensemble. He sees the potential to draw from the rich narrative elements of Season 3 of Picard and craft an extraordinary cinematic experience.
Stewart has expressed his desire to make this movie a reality, saying that while he’s talked about it, there hasn’t been an enthusiastic response from the studio yet. Nevertheless, he believes it would be a fitting way to bid farewell to these beloved characters and the Star Trek universe.
Fans of the franchise, as well as Stewart himself, are eagerly awaiting Paramount’s decision on this proposed Picard movie. For many, the prospect of a Picard film is more enticing than the continuation of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek 4, and they find it perplexing that Paramount hasn’t seized this opportunity to further explore the legacy of these beloved characters.
