It has been reported that Wolverine will not initially be part of the X-Men lineup when Marvel Studios reboots this beloved comic book team for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). According to information from the reputable source CanWeGetSomeToast, “The current plan for rebooting the X-Men in the MCU does not include Wolverine as part of the team.” This scoop also suggests that Marvel’s strategy for the mutants is closely tied to a broader effort to promote the X-Men across various media, with a strong focus on bringing them to the big screen. If this rumor proves true, it will mark a significant departure from the approach taken in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men film series, where Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine played a prominent role in nearly every installment.
Hugh Jackman famously portrayed Logan, also known as Wolverine, in nine X-Men films from 2000 to 2017. While “Logan” was initially marketed as Jackman’s farewell to the character, he later confirmed his return as Wolverine in “Deadpool 3,” which will be the first X-Men film released as part of the MCU. There are also rumors circulating that Jackman may make an appearance in “Avengers: Secret Wars,” where Wolverine would be part of a Multiversal Avengers team. If Wolverine does make a post-“Secret Wars” appearance, it is expected that a new actor will take on the role.

How Old Is Wolverine in X-Men Comics and Movies?
Marvel Studios has slowly been introducing mutants into the MCU after regaining the rights to the X-Men in 2019. Characters such as Professor X and Namor have appeared in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” respectively. Additionally, the MCU version of Ms. Marvel has been revealed to be a mutant, as opposed to an Inhuman, a change that has also been adopted in the comics.
With the Writers Guild of America strike resolved, Marvel Studios has reportedly started scheduling meetings to hear pitches from writers for the X-Men reboot. Although there is no rush to fill this position, it is likely to be filled by early 2024. The most recent X-Men film to feature the superhero team’s name in the title was “X-Men: Apocalypse” in 2016.
